Do you need IPTV if you already have a Fire TV Stick?
The Firestick is hardware; its preinstalled apps are on-demand libraries. They carry almost no live linear channels and very little live sport, and each one has its own separate guide and its own monthly bill. IPTV adds a live channel list, one programme guide covering all of it, and catch-up, on the same Firestick you already own. Most people end up running both.
They are not competing for the same job
A Fire TV Stick out of the box gives you Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Freevee and a handful of free ad-supported channel apps. Every one of those is a library: you open it, browse a catalogue, and choose something. That is a fundamentally different experience from live television, where a schedule is running whether you are watching or not, and where the thing you want — a match, a race, the news — exists only at the moment it is broadcast.
Nothing in the Firestick's default app set does live linear television at scale. That is the gap IPTV fills, on the device you already own.

Where the built-in apps genuinely win
Two things, and they are real. Exclusive originals only exist where they are made — no IPTV service carries a Netflix original, because that is what exclusive means. And offline downloads are supported by several of the major apps and by no IPTV service, because IPTV is a live stream by definition. If your viewing is mostly originals, or mostly on a plane, the apps are the right tool.
Where the free channel apps fall short
Freevee, Pluto TV and Tubi are the closest the Firestick gets to live TV for free, and they are worth having. What they are not is a channel line-up: most of their “channels” are library content scheduled on a loop, the premium sports networks are absent entirely, and each app's guide covers only its own channels. You cannot sit down, open one guide, and see what is on across everything — which is the specific thing people miss after cancelling cable.
Running both on one Firestick
This is the normal end state, and there is no conflict — an IPTV player is just another app. Install a player, add your subscription, and leave your existing apps where they are.
